The African Management Services Company, on 17-18 May 2011 held a Corporate Governance workshop for various companies at Golfview Hotel in Lusaka Zambia. Attended by 15 executives (3 female and 12 male), the workshop ran under the course title – Directors Fiduciary Duties and Board effectiveness. It was co-financed by Norfund.
Companies represented were, Afgri Corporation Limited, InnCor Holdings/Spar Zambia, Madison Life Insurance Co. Ltd., Parmalat Zambia Limited, Scaw Limited, Agro Fuel Investment LTD and the Institute of Directors among others.
The workshop was very successful with a number of participants confirming that not only was it interactive, it changed their views on the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors and legal responsibilities.
“Issues of Corporate Governance should be presented to all companies and I have learnt a lot that would be applicable to my occupation” said one of the participants.
A formal evaluation of the training by the participants gave AMSCO an excellent score suggesting a need to extend their training to more African enterprises for companies to be well governed, profitable and sustainable.
