Zambia Enterprises Meet for Improved Capacity, Sustainability and Profit
The capacity for small to medium businesses, business associations and business development service providers to fully engage at global competitive levels is more often compromised due to technical challenges. For Africa in general, most of them end up operating at a loss or ceasing to exist and therefore exacerbating poverty and underdevelopment.

In an effort to address this, the African Development Bank (AfDB) hosted two breakfast meetings with Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia. The first one took place on 25th October 2011 at Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka and the other on 27th October 2011 at Edinburgh Hotel in Kitwe respectively.

The meetings that witnessed a turnout of about 200 people each served as an opportunity for the AfDB to take the SME development project to the people in Zambia, build capacity for businesses and to increase their chances of accessing finance from banks.

There was progressive interaction between the SMEs in attendance, government representatives, the reserve bank of Zambia and representatives of ZANACO and Investrust.

The Zambia SME Support Programme is implemented by ATMS/AMSCO with the overall aim of enhancing SMEs role and contribution to wealth and job creation in Zambia.
