AMSCO/GIBS Seminar: Executing for growth in Africa Trends, Opportunities and Strategies

On 12th February 2015, South Africa’s leading UK Financial Times ranked business school, the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) and the African Management Services Company (AMSCO) hosted a half-day seminar themed, “Executing for Growth in Africa – Trends, Opportunity and Strategies” in Nairobi, Kenya.

The event which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel sought to bring together policymakers and leaders from various business sectors in Kenya, to explore developments across the continent while exploring challenges and opportunities that businesses face, and provide insights on strategy.

Keynote speakers included Dean of GIBS, Professor Nick Binedell; Director of Operations AMSCO, Mr. Kofi Andah; Director for the Centre Dynamic Markets at GIBS, Dr. Lyal White and World Bank Senior Economist for Kenya, Dr John Randa.

A panel discussion on “Kenya’s Economic Outlook 2015” offered robust debate between the panellists who included Chief Executive Officer of Uchumi Supermarkets, Mr. Jonathan Ciano; Chief Executive Officer of Naked Pizza, Mr. Ritesh Doshi and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Ms. Betty Maina.
Dr. Lyal White said, “With the growing interest in African economies, and particularly as East Africa as a sub-region leads economic growth, GIBS though the Centre for Dynamic Markets is establishing premier events for key stakeholders in an effort to better understand the inner workings of the exciting dynamic markets across the continent.”

Mr. Kofi Andah added, “The Executing for Growth in Africa seminar is directly in line with AMSCO’s commitment to assist African businesses and key stakeholders in meeting their growth and development objectives. It is our hope that participants will continue engaging beyond this forum in order to transform Africa’s economy.”
