DBN Turnaround Restores Vital Signs for Medipark
A drastic turnaround strategy, spearheaded by the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) with the support of the African Management Services Company (AMSCO), has seen the turnover at Ongwediva Medipark (OMP) in Namibia increasing fourfold. The company's profit margins have improved significantly, to the extent that forecast revenue and profits for the year were revised upwards, in the second quarter of 2011, in line with new realities. AMSCO sourced and placed an experienced Hospital Manager for a period of two years for the hospital.
 
Investrust, Zanaco get $13.5 million AfDB credit
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has provided credit lines worth US$13.5 million to two commercial banks to support the development of private sector and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Zambia. AfDB country representative Freddie Kwesiga said the institution has provided Zanaco with US$5million after the initial allocation of US$10million while Investrust Bank has been given US$3.5 million as part of its initiative to close the financing gap for SMEs. AMSCO serves as the implementing partner for this SME support project.
 
Develop Managerial Capacity – AfDB
There is need to improve the low managerial capacity among Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) in order to overcome some of the challenges the sector is facing, Africa Development Bank (AfDB) Resident Representative Freddie Kwesiga has said. Speaking during the AfDB SMEs marketing forum at Kitwe's Hotel Edinburgh, Dr Kwesiga said low managerial capacity among the SMEs disadvantage them in accessing financing and also contributed to operational hiccups.

UN project supports tax revenue increase in Africa
