| AMSCO clients, La Laiterie du Berger and Bridge International Academies walked away winners at the 2012 African Entrepreneurship Awards in Accra, Ghana on 11 October.
La Laiterie du Berger won the award for Outstanding Small and Growing Business with Bridge International Academies coming in a close second. Both companies picked up a plaque and US$ 50,000 prize money respectively.
In a country where an estimated 90% of the milk consumed is imported, La Laiterie du Berger is Senegal’s only dairy processing company that sources and processes milk from semi-nomadic Fulani pastoralist. La Laiterie du Berger CEO, Bagoré Bathily attributed the company’s success and progressive nature to skilled labour and expert management.
“La Laiterie Du Berger decided from the beginning of its operations to enroll in the same line with multinationals and become a real industry. The company therefore needed qualified and experienced managers to set up its operations. Milk as well as industrials experts are almost inexistent in Africa but through strategic partnerships such as the one we have with AMSCO we have been able to provide solutions.”
“For La Laiterie Du Berger which is currently in expansion, the award is an encouragement. The first received in Africa, it shows the trust that stakeholders have in the company in regard to transparency issues and capabilities,” added Bathily.
Runner-up, Bridge International Academies has been described as a global leader in providing high quality, low cost pre-primary education to children of parents living under two dollars a day. Over 80 academies in Kenya, catering to more than 25,000 students make this the biggest chain of low-cost private schools in Africa.
Organised by the African Leadership Network, The African Awards for Entrepreneurship recognise and award high performing African entrepreneurs with a track record of business excellence and social impact.
